I hand-carved and built this stool over a weekend following Shaker techniques and principles, through a class with the ever awesome Fireweed Community Woodshop! It's made of Oregon white oak with cotton strips. The first image is right at the end of class, where I'd dyed my cotton using natural dyes: madder root, iron, and oak gulls. It was a really cool process but I didn't love the end result and how it matched my home, so I later bleached, re-dyed with chemical dye, oiled the stool with tung oil, and rewove the strips in a new pattern.
